Insurance carriers offer a wide range of plans, and each one has its own terms. In most cases, your employer selects a single plan that covers all employees and their dependents, and that plan may include a deductible and/or coinsurance. This means that, beyond your monthly premium and your visit co-pay, you may need to pay out of pocket for a portion of your care each year until you reach your plan’s deductible limit. Once that limit is met, your insurance company takes over payments directly with our office.
Medical billing — including adjustments and write-offs — can be difficult to follow. First, make sure you’re looking at an actual bill from our office and not an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance company; an EOB that shows a balance doesn’t always mean you’ll be billed, since many charges are written off. Next, call your insurance carrier and reference your date of service to confirm whether that charge was applied toward your deductible. If you still have questions, email us at info@hourizadehmed.com with “Billing Question” in the subject line and a brief explanation of your concern, and our team will follow up with you.
